Bignotti Beach

This morning we spotted a sign pointing down a dirt road that drops deep into a canyon. Doug (of course) decided that we needed to see Bignotti Beach. So off we went.

I didn't get pictures of the narrow road carved into the side of the canyon wall, crossing a couple of washes because I was holding on so tightly that I couldn't get to the camera. Yeehaw!

But when we came out in the valley, there was a deserted parking area amid green trees and grass. We parked the car and followed the path above the Verde River for a ways.

It was still very warm outside and we were careful to listen and watch for snakes as we made our way down to the river. The water was so warm it was like bathwater yet rushing past us very swiftly. And that was Bignotti Beach.

When we got back to the car we had a visitor sitting on a nearby post.

His colors were so gorgeous that Doug had to have a picture. He crept closer and closer while the bold little guy just sat there waiting for his portrait. As Doug snapped this last shot, he hightailed it down the post and across the field.

We then made a quick run into Cottonwood to find a part for the hoses and got home just before the rain started. The lightning behind us put on quite a show along with thunder and huge raindrops.
